Shibumi Studios (a spacious 10×4 metres), is built along the lines of a typical ryokan (旅館), a traditional Japanese inn that originated in the Edo period (1603-1968). It is an ‘indoor-outdoor’, all-weather working environment, with sliding doors opening onto a meditation garden. We have lots of space to create imaginative sets and still have social and working areas. The studio environment has been specifically designed to utilise natural light that brings out the true colours of skin tones and clothing. In addition, and depending on the time of day and season, varied sunlight and shade combinations reflect the natural world outside and the movement of the sun. In addition, through the digital magic of Photoshop, we can locate any photoshoot to a magical, chosen environment: modern studio, lawn, riverside or Thai beach.
